- The
private carrier
:
The transport contract is exchanged between the sender (or forwarding agent)
and the transport company. This contract occurs most frequently in the case of
international transport. The consignment can either be sent singularly, or as
part of a group ( one or more packages) namely a full delivery (a whole
container (FCL) or a full vehicle)
- Transport
for own account
: Undertaken by companies with their own methods of transport. This type of
delivery is nominal in international business (possibly by lorry) because of
difficulties with maintaining the depot;
- Chartering
:
A contract is drawn up to hire a method of transport for a specific journey or
period of time. It is only regularly used in an international context
concerning marine transport. It is important to note that chartering is very
common in road haulage but "charterer" is the term that designates
the grouping agent and not the sender of the goods;
- Consolidation
:
contract in which an intermediary (the grouping agent) consults the sender (or
forwarding agent) and the transport company. The grouping agent gathers
together many different deliveries to the same destination in order to make up
a full load for the transporter.
